ABOUT THE ARTIST

In all things of nature there is something of the marvelous."  Aristotle

Artist Elayne Sears paints and illustrates from her studio in Crown Point, New York.  Her illustrations have appeared in numerous books (Storey Publishing, Rodale, Harper Collins, Taunton Press, etc.),  and magazines (Mother Earth News, Martha Stewart Living, Adirondack Life, among others).

In her own work as a painter, Sears continually explores the Adirondacks in each changing season... from Lake Champlain in frigid February, to golden wheat fields in August. She's also captured the richness of life in a small town: neighborhood characters, pet chickens, her golden retrievers, and the local bakery--Crown Point Bread, which her son owns. You can often find her there at one of the tables, with a sketchpad and pencils or brushes in hand... about to sketch an impromptu gathering at the upright piano (there are always musicians around), or the scene of fresh croissants coming out of the oven.

Most recently, her work has made a turn towards the micro-- uncovering a world insulated from (or immune to) outer chaos, with deeply textured mosses, layers of fallen leaves, and prized mushrooms peaking through...
